17 year old Romanian model, Emma Dumitrescu of Bucharest, Romania, created a world record by wearing the World’s Longest Wedding Dress on 21st March, 2012.
The length of the dress was 2.98 km. and was designed by Andree Salon fashion house, a local designer. The dress more than doubled the previous record of under a mile, which was held by a designer from the Netherlands
Emma took a ride in a hot air balloon to show the entire length of the wedding dress. The cost of the material involved in making this dress was about $8000 and needed an effort of 10 seamstresses for a period of about 100 days.
According to the Telegraph, 1,857 sewing needles and 150 spools of thread were used in its creation.
The record was tinged with the taste of a sweet political victory for Romania, since the Netherlands campaigned against that country’s inclusion in the European Union’s visa-free travel zone, according to The Associated Press.
