Rabi Lamichhane, a 36-year-old TV presenter from Kathmandu, Nepal set a new record for the longest TV talk show. It was immediately recognized by the people of Guinnes World Records, who were present during the talk show that stretched for more than 62 hours!
The show began at 10 AM last Thursday and ended after 62 hours and 12 minutes on Saturday, April 13, 2013. The topic was “Lord Buddha Was Born in Nepal,” and there were many guests including the Nepalese politicians, journalists, entrepreneurs, sportspersons etc. Talk show host was allowed to take a five minute break after every hour, according to the Guinness World Record rules; however, he chose to accumulate them and take longer breaks, after hosting the show for several hours at a stretch.
“Through the talk show I want to spread the word about Nepal and promote tourism,” said Lamichhane, a former journalist, who is now a manager at a Subway fast-food sandwich outlet in Baltimore, United States. He managed to eclipse the previous record holder, a Ukrainian TV presented, who hosted a TV show for 52 hours in 2011, to mark the 20th anniversary of his country’s independence.
