Kumbh Mela held in Allahabad from 14th Jan, 2013 to 10th March 2013 holds the record for the World’s Largest Religious gathering of people at a single location. The number of people attending the Kumbh Mela in the year 2013 is more than 80 million. Kumbh Mela is a festival involving mass Hidu pilgrimage. It is held every third year in four different cities in India namely Ujjain, Nashik, Allahabad and Haridwar on a rotational basis. Thus, each of the above mentioned cities gets a chance to host the Kumbh Mela every twelve years.
The Kumbh Mela of year 2013 is being held in Allahabad (Prayag) at the confluence of Ganges, Yamuna and the invisible Saraswati rivers. All the pilgrims who visit the Kumbh Mela take a holy dip in the confluence. The largest single gathering on one day was registered on 10th Feb. 2013 when a reported 30 million people were present on the banks of the confluence.
