Tallest Cooling Tower

World’s Tallest Cooling Tower

The World Record for the Tallest Cooling Tower in the world is held by the Kalisindh Thermal Energy Plant in Rajasthan, India. There are actually two towers in this plant and have a height of 202 meters each. This surpasses the record of the tallest cooling towers which was held by the Niederaussem Power Plant in Germany. The project has been funded by the Government of the State of Rajasthan in India. BGR Energy Systems is the builder of the project. When in full operation, the plant is supposed to produce 1200MW electricity. The base diameter of the cooling towers is 142 meters.

Cooling towers are heat removal devices used to transfer process waste heat to the atmosphere. Cooling towers may either use the evaporation of water to remove process heat and cool the working fluid to near the wet-bulb air temperature or, in the case of closed circuit dry cooling towers, rely solely on air to cool the working fluid to near the dry-bulb air temperature.
