Tiger pistol shrimp
Tiger pistol shrimp is one of the most fascinating creature and also the loudest animal in the world. This snapping shrimp is equipped with somewhat of a gun used for stunning its prey with an incredible accuracy.
With a single snap, the tiger pistol shrimp can produce a sound wave as loud as 200 decibels. That is louder than the 188 decibels a blue whale can produce, or the peak of loudness at a rock concert which can reach up to 150 decibels.Alpheus bellulus or tiger shrimp can grow to a size up to 4 to 5 cm, antennas not included. The body is stout and non-translucent. The background color of the body is yellowish white or plain yellow. The patterns drawn on the cephalothorax, abdomen and tailare irregular but symmetric, their coloration varies from light brown, brownish purple to brownish orange. The legs are banded with the same colors as the body and are covered with short bristles. The antennas are red.The chelipeds are also banded with a peculiarity on the right cheliped which is bigger and modified. The latter turns out to be a dread weapon because it possesses the capacity by shutting fast to expel an air bubble at more than 100km / hour towards the prey. This action is accompanied with a loud bang.
