Automobile companies are companies in the automotive industry that manufacture, design, develop, market and sell motor vehicles, mopeds, towed motor vehicles and motorcycles.

The industry begun in 1890s with few manufactures but the number grew with time and currently there are many manufactures all over the world.

The following are the largest automobile companies in the world:

Toyota Motor Corporation:

 It is a Japanese company whose headquarter is in Japan, Toyota in Aichi. In 2012, it was the largest manufacturer by production of automobiles.

It was founded in 1973 by Kiichiro Toyoda. It consists of many employees – 325,905 all over the world. It has 226 affiliates and 540 consolidated subsidiaries. In the calendar year 2012, Toyota Group had produced 9,909,440 units. Toyota announced on May 8, 2013 to produce ten point one million units in calendar year 2013. If it is achieved, it will be the first automobile to reach a threshold of ten million.

      General Motors Company:

General Motors does business in one hundred and fifty seven countries and employs 212, 000 employees. For seventy seven years from 1931 to 2007, General Motors led vehicle sales globally and it is currently among the largest vehicle unit sales automakers.

In 2011, General Motors produced 8.5 million units globally. In 2012 they produced 2,595,717 vehicle sales units in United States.


      It is a German automobile firm whose headquarters are in Wolfsburg, lower Saxony, Germany. It is the biggest automobile manufacture in Germany and the third largest in the world.

It was founded in 1937. They have teamed up with Sanyo to develop hybrid electric vehicles.

      Hyundai Group:

      It was founded in 1974 by Chung Ju-yung. Its headquarters are in Seoul, South Korea. Hyundai Motor Company and operate the world’s largest automaker that is integrated.


The company employs 75,000 people all over the world and their vehicles are sold in one hundred and ninety three countries.

Hyundai sold more than 1.7 million vehicles in 2010 worldwide. Their most popular models are Elantra compact and Sonata mid-size sedan.

      Ford Motor Company:

      It is an American automaker whose headquarters are in Dearborn, Michigan. It was founded in 1903 by Ford Henry.

The company sells cars of luxury use in the brand called Lincoln and vehicles of commercial use under the brand called Ford. Based on 2010 sales, Ford is the fifth largest automaker in the world.
